Jaipur : Bhajanlal government had appointed administrators in 49 civic bodies late on Monday night. Now controversy has come to light regarding this. Leader of Opposition in the Assembly and Congress leader Tikaram Julie raised questions and said that appointing administrators in 49 municipal bodies of the state is unconstitutional. This attitude of the government is going to weaken democratic institutions. In fact, on September 25, the Bhajan Lal government has indicated to implement One State One Election by appointing administrators in 49 municipal bodies. According to the notification of the autonomous department, administrators have been appointed in 49 municipal bodies of the state till the formation of new elected boards.
This decision is completely unconstitutional – Julie
Opposition leader Tikaram Julie, writing on his X handle, said that appointing administrators in 49 municipal bodies of the state is unconstitutional! The decision of the state government to appoint administrators in 49 municipal bodies is completely unconstitutional and weakens democratic institutions. The government has appointed government officials as administrators arguing that the tenure of five municipal corporations, 20 municipal councils and 24 municipalities of the state has ended. Whereas the government should have announced immediate elections to maintain the democratic system of these bodies.
Tikaram Julie demanded that our government should hold elections to these bodies immediately. The state government is making the excuse of ‘One State One Election’ agenda behind this, but in reality the BJP government of the state does not want to conduct the elections of these municipal bodies due to the fear of its defeat.
Government’s attitude described as undemocratic
He said that there is still one year or more left for the completion of the tenure of many municipal bodies of the state. Till then, the state government wants to run the municipal corporations in the hands of District Collectors, Municipal Councils in the hands of ADMs and Municipalities in the hands of SDM level government officials in the municipal bodies that have completed their tenure. This attitude of the government is going to weaken democratic institutions. This attempt of the state government to deprive the common people of their elected representatives is undemocratic and unconstitutional. This step of the government will lead to chaos in these bodies and the common people will yearn for solutions to their everyday problems. Dominating the bureaucracy in municipal bodies is against the basic spirit of the Constitution.
‘The government wants to impose its arbitrary will’
It is a matter of misfortune that preparations were going on everywhere to celebrate Constitution Day. A day before that, by taking this step, the state government in Rajasthan has proved that the government wants to impose its arbitrariness on democracy and has no faith in the Constitution. The Congress Party has always protected the interests of the Constitution. We will continue to protect it at all costs. Jai Hind, Jai Constitution. It is noteworthy that on 25th November, the tenure of 5 Municipal Corporations, 20 Municipal Councils and 24 Municipal Boards in Rajasthan completed. Now, till the new board is formed, the same administrators will take decisions in these urban bodies and send proposals to the government. The government has appointed Collector as administrator where there is Municipal Corporation, ADM where there is Municipal Council and SDM where there is Municipality.
