Politics heats up over CGL exam controversy and lathicharge on students in Jharkhand, demand for CBI inquiry

Ranchi, December 11 (IANS). The series of political allegations and counter-allegations has intensified over the incident of lathicharge in Hazaribagh on Tuesday on the agitating students demanding cancellation of the results of the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) examination of Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission.

This incident was also echoed in the Jharkhand Assembly complex on Wednesday. Before the commencement of the House, AJSU Party MLA from Mandu assembly constituency Nirmal Mahato staged a protest at the main gate of the House in protest against this incident. He demanded a CBI inquiry into the allegations of irregularities in the JSSC-CGL examination.

Nirmal Mahato also demanded an inquiry into the lathicharge on students protesting on Tuesday over the cancellation of examinations in Hazaribagh. He said that the demands of the students are justified. Efforts are being made to suppress their voice.

Former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and senior Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Babulal Marandi, while talking to reporters in the Assembly complex, supported the students’ agitation demanding cancellation of JSSC CGL exam. He said that if the students do not get justice then it is natural for them to get angry. Since the time this examination took place, students have been agitating on the streets. He has stated with evidence that there were irregularities in the examination. He demanded a CBI inquiry into the entire matter. Marandi said that he condemns the lathi charge on students in Hazaribagh. This government has done wrong. This incident will prove to be the nail in his coffin.

Jharkhand Government Minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu said in this regard that the leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party are playing with the future of the students for their own selfish interest. They want to pursue their political interests in the guise of students. Everyone has the right to protest, but no one has the right to violate law and order. Students should express their views in the appropriate forum. The government is ready to find a solution to their problems, but the Bharatiya Janata Party is playing with the future of the students by hiding its face behind a movement motivated by political objectives, so we oppose it.

JLKM (Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha) MLA Jairam Mahato, while talking to journalists, said that the police has lathicharged in Hazaribagh on the students who were agitating for their legitimate demands. Someone’s finger, someone’s hand and someone’s leg have been fractured. I will raise this issue inside the House. I am standing with the students outside the House also, because I have reached here through the student movement.

He said that whenever students protest on any issue, the government tries to call it a conspiracy by the opposition. We have already asked the CM and government ministers to go among the students, listen to them and try to solve their problems. Three leaders who were candidates of our party have been injured in the lathicharge. This is an unfortunate situation.
