Sri Ganganagar : The farmers of Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan protest for irrigation water throughout the year. But along with this, there is another big problem which is becoming serious, that is water laden with chemicals. This water continuously comes from Punjab. Many districts of the state are affected due to this poisonous water laden with chemicals. Therefore, a protest march is being taken out in Ludhiana to get rid of this poisonous water.
There will be a fury march in Ludhiana, Punjab
For some time now, the movement has started moving forward rapidly to get a permanent solution to the problem of contaminated poisonous water being released from the canals of Punjab. Under this, a protest march is being taken out in Ludhiana on 24th August. People from Rajasthan and Punjab will participate in it. The Sri Ganganagar agitation committee ‘Dushit Jal Surakshit Kal Samiti’, which is supporting this march, has appealed to the people to participate in this march in large numbers. Mahesh Pediwal, a member of this committee, said that many artists from Punjab will also participate in this protest march. Public relations are being done at the local level for the protest march. Committee spokesperson Ramzan Ali Chopdar said that flags and posters have been released for this.
Budha Nala is polluting the Sutlej river
Sutlej river is the main river of Punjab and Rajasthan which is facing a serious environmental crisis today. The main reason for this is the Budha Nala of Punjab, which has become a major source of pollution in the river. This drain, once known as the clean water stream of Ludhiana, has now become the most polluted. This has also seriously affected the quality of the river water. Budha Nala is 14 kilometers long which flows through the middle of Ludhiana city. Maninder Mann, who is playing an active role in the movement, told that the waste of thousands of electroplating and dyeing factories of Ludhiana falls into this drain and through it joins the Sutlej river. This drain has become highly polluted with various industrial waste, domestic garbage and untreated sewage. Every day this drain carries about 200 million liters of untreated sewage, which falls into the Sutlej river. Apart from this, various types of toxic chemicals and industrial waste are also found in it, which make the river water even more polluted.
The train going from Punjab was named Cancer Train
It is not that only the people of Rajasthan are affected by this contaminated water. The Sutlej river also supplies water to a large area of Punjab, so a large number of people here are also affected by it and are suffering from diseases related to this contaminated water, especially cancer. Due to this, a train goes from Bhatinda in Punjab to Bikaner which is called cancer train because there are many cancer patients in it. The then Chief Minister of Rajasthan Vasundhara Raje also raised this issue in front of PM Modi.
Along with treatment, there should be talk about permanent solution
Dr. Mohit Tantiya, Vice Chairman of Tantiya University, says that the level of industrial waste is so much that even after filtering the water, impurities remain in it which is affecting our health. He said that although the government has announced to open a cancer wing in Sri Ganganagar and two projects have started at private level. But it would be better if work is done on preventing cancer instead of treating it. Along with this, officials of Water Resources Department and PHED say that samples of drinking water and irrigation water are regularly taken and tested. The department says that water is supplied only after filtering.
