Rain wreaks havoc in Rajasthan, farmers’ hard work wasted, crops ruined

Jaipur : Coriander, which is often available for free with vegetables, has now become VIP due to inflation. In fact, due to heavy rains in Jaipur and other districts, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, the coriander crop has been completely ruined. In such a situation, coriander is being ordered by vegetable vendors in Muhana Mandi by air from Bengaluru. At the same time, its price is also reaching the same level as apple and kiwi. Also, women are also upset due to not getting coriander for free on the carts. At least 50 to 60 kg of coriander has to be ordered by a trader. Earlier, 25 to 30 tons of goods were sold daily in the coriander market. Now its consumption has remained only around two tons. Yogesh Tanwar, President of Jaipur Fruit and Vegetable Wholesalers Association Muhana Terminal Market, said that further increase in prices can be seen in the coming days.

Up to Rs 400 per kg in retail

In Jaipur city, apart from the mandis, the price of coriander has reached Rs. 400 per kg in the retail market at carts and other places including C Scheme, Rajapark, Vaishali Nagar.

Rs 60/kg fare

Inder Kumar Saini, a wholesaler of coriander in Muhana Mandi, said that there is a demand for coriander during the festive season, but the crop has been completely destroyed due to waterlogging in the fields. In such a situation, coriander is being ordered from Bengaluru. The wholesale price is 160 to 250 rupees per kg. Heavy rains are continuing in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. The air cargo fare to Jaipur is up to 60 rupees per kg.
