Jaipur : this is a 19 year old case. On the morning of 21st March 2006, the phones of every senior official from Delhi to Jaipur and Alwar started ringing. Calls were coming directly from PMO. There was a lot of commotion in Alwar Kotwali police station as well. All the top officials of the district had gathered there. From here, the vehicles of the top police officials quickly left for Ankur Hotel located at Manu Marg. Actually, PMO was informed by the German Embassy that German student Brittany (name changed) staying at Ankur Hotel was raped on the night of 20th March 2006. This information was given to the German Embassy by a German friend of Brittany through email.
PMO sought report
The rape of a foreign student was a very high profile and sensitive case. In such a situation, the PMO started seeking reports from everywhere, from Delhi to Jaipur and Alwar.
However, apart from the information received from the PMO, the Alwar police did not have any information related to the incident. So, as soon as the police reached Ankur Hotel, they started investigating.
Rakesh Sharma was present here from the hotel management. He was managing the same hotel for the last 8 years. The police questioned him about the rape of the German student. He said that he had no such information.
However, he told that on the night of 20th March at 10.30 pm an Indian boy came here with his foreign friend. He was given room number 205. After some time he asked for another room. On this he was given room number 207 right opposite to room number 205.
The foreign girl went to room number 205 and the Indian boy to 207. The boy had made the advance payment. Both of them were served their food in the room itself.
In the morning both of them left the hotel together
The police asked Rakesh Sharma for the identity details of both of them. Sharma said that the boy had told his name as BH Mohanty. The details of the foreign friend were not taken.
He told the police that he had gone to get the bedsheet at around 3 am. At that time, BH Mohanty was roaming around in a hurry in front of room number 205 and room number 207.
Rakesh Sharma further told that at around 6:30 in the morning, the foreign girl came down to the reception. She had asked about the STD PCO to make a call. She seemed nervous. We showed her the way to the STD PCO through gestures. After this, she went towards the STD PCO.
After about ten minutes the foreign girl returned to the hotel. She went straight to room number 205. BH Mohanty opened the gate. After a while the foreign girl came out with some luggage. She went alone to room number 207.
Around 7:30 in the morning, the foreign girl came to the reception. During this time, BH Mohanty also followed her. They checked out from here and left on foot.
Whatever Rakesh Sharma of Ankur Hotel management told, did not help the police much. Even now the police had no clue about BH Mohanty and the foreign girl. Where did they go after leaving the hotel? What happened between them in the hotel at night? And is this really the German girl about whom they had received a complaint of rape? The police had not got answers to these questions till now.
Was calling the German embassy
The police put a team to find out the complete horoscope of BH Mohanty and trace him. The second team was communicating with the German Embassy for the details of the rape victim, German girl Brittany. However, the police still had to gather a lot of information from the STD PCO. After all, who did that foreign girl call so early in the morning in a panic and what was discussed? Some police officers reached that STD PCO. PCO operator Mukesh Mathur told that on the morning of 21st March, a foreign girl came here to make a call. That girl had asked for the numbers of the German Embassy. Mukesh Mathur told – I did not have these numbers. I suggested her to dial 197 and get the numbers of the German Embassy from there. She also dialed 197 many times. She could not get the numbers of the embassy. The phone could not be connected and after trying for a long time, she went back to Ankur Hotel.
Was not ready to talk to the police
The police team got Brittany’s number and details from the German embassy. The police immediately contacted Brittany on those numbers. They asked about her location. Brittany was scared. She was not able to tell anything to the police. She told the police officers that she was going to Delhi. Now she will tell everything at the embassy. Rajasthan police officers also requested Brittany to stay in Alwar and make an official complaint of rape. Brittany refused the request. She refused to stay in Alwar. She left for Delhi by train.
Mohanty is the son of Odisha DGP
The police officers kept requesting her. Some women officers talked to her. She was taken into confidence. She was very scared. After a lot of persuasion, she finally got off the train at the next railway station stop. Alwar police team came to pick her up. The police team brought her from the station to Alwar. Another person was also present in the same train. The police team took him along with them and left for Alwar. Meanwhile, the police had also got a lot of information about BH Mohanty. He was the son of Odisha Director General of Police (DGP), Home Guards and Fire Services Vidya Bhushan Mohanty.
Mohanty was doing MBA from Delhi
BH Mohanty was pursuing MBA from IILM New Delhi. On 20 March, he came to Alwar for a research project with his fellow German student Brittany. Now it was clear to the police that BH Mohanty and Brittany were the ones staying in room number 205 and 207 of Ankur Hotel.
However, there were still many questions whose answers the police had to find as soon as possible.
After all, what happened in Ankur Hotel of Alwar on the night of 20 March 2006?
BH Mohanty and Britney arrived at the hotel laughing together but why did they go back and forth silently while checking out?
Didn’t the Orissa DGP’s son commit some crime with his foreign friend?
