Jaipur : The 54th meeting of the GST Council is going to be held on Monday in the capital Jaipur. This is the first meeting of the council after Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman held discussions with various categories of entrepreneurs including marble in Udaipur. In such a situation, the industry of the state also has expectations from it. Medical and Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khinvsar will represent the state in the meeting. Sitharaman was on a two-day visit to Udaipur recently and during this time she also interacted with entrepreneurs associated with marble and granite of Udaipur. In such a situation, the marble and granite sector of the state is expected to get some relief.
Entrepreneurs had placed a demand from the Finance Minister
Udaipur’s marble and granite entrepreneurs had told the Union Finance Minister that the local market is in crisis due to imported marble and tiles. Earlier, under GST, about 5 percent VAT was levied on marble and granite, whereas now 18 percent GST is levied. The entrepreneurs demanded that the GST rate be reduced to five percent.
