Rajsamand : Due to the right and left canals originating from Rajsamand Lake being damaged at many places, water is flowing wastefully and at some places the playground is getting filled with water. Due to this, the precious water of the lake is flowing in vain. In such a situation, the canal system needs repair. The water coming out of the lake provides irrigation to 10611 hectares. Due to good inflow of water from Khari feeder and Gomati river in Rajsamand lake, the water level of the lake had reached about 28 feet. Due to this, on the demand of farmers, the right and left canals were opened on 6 and 8 November. Since then the drainage of water is continuing. The water of the lake reaches Fiyawadi Gram Panchayat through the left canal originating from Rajsamand Lake. Its distance is about 35 kilometers. Once the canal is opened, water is supplied from the left canal for 28 days and from the right canal for 32 days. At many places, small canals are also built in the big canals. But due to lack of maintenance over time, most of the canals have become damaged. Due to this the water of the lake is flowing unnecessarily. Although the Irrigation Department has sent proposals to DMFT to repair the damaged canals, no progress has been made yet.
The sports ground located near the Government Higher Secondary School at Kunwariya Tehsil Headquarters is currently filled with water from the irrigation canal. In such a situation, the playground has started giving the impression of a pond when seen from a distance. The water released for irrigation from Rajsamand Lake reaches the fields through canals in the area. However, the condition of irrigation canals as well as minor canals in the area has not been repaired for many years. Due to this, the water being released from the lake into the canals is leaking at many places and at many places the water is flowing through ponds and spreading on the roads and causing damage to the farmers in the fields. Similarly, due to damage to the irrigation canal passing near the playground of Raumavi in the town, the irrigation water is coming out of the canal and reaching the playground. Due to this, the present condition of the playing field is such that the hockey goal post area and more than half of the playing field has taken the form of a pond. Villagers told that the Irrigation Department has released water in the canals, but no monitoring is being done by them due to which thousands of liters of water is flowing unnecessarily. Expressing their anger regarding this, the villagers have demanded immediate attention from the responsible as well as the administration.
