Rare gallbladder surgery done in Lucknow Civil Hospital

Lucknow, 6 December (IANS). Doctors at Lucknow Civil Hospital successfully treated gallstones and enlarged gallbladder. The special thing is that the size of the patient’s gallbladder had increased to about 15 centimeters, which is double its normal size. This was only the ninth such case in the world so far.

General surgeon Dr. Surmya Pandey, who successfully treated the thirty-five-year-old woman, said, “A woman came to us on November 26 complaining of stomach ache. We did ultrasound of patient Shalini Tiwari. The report revealed that he had gallstones. After this we operated on him on 28th November.

Dr. Pandey said, “During the operation, we found that not only was there a gallstone, the size of the gallbladder was also very large.” Which is called “Giant Gallbladder”. Normally the size of gallbladder is around seven to eight centimetres, but this patient’s gallbladder was around 15 centimetres, this is a rare condition, which has been seen in only nine patients across the world till now.”

He told that the patient did not face any problem after the operation. He was discharged from the hospital on December 3. She came for follow-up on Friday and is completely fit. The operation we conducted was completely successful.

The doctor said, “Gallbladder surgery is usually a routine operation, but what is special about this case is that the size of the gallbladder was extremely large, which is a very rare condition. So far it has been seen in only nine cases in the world.

She told, “I was the operating surgeon in this operation. My team of doctors included Junior Resident Dr. Manish, Sister Kiran and Dr. SK Singh.
