Remembering her father’s bravery, an emotional Celina Jaitley said, ‘Parakramo Vijayate’

Mumbai, December 3 (IANS). Film industry’s evergreen actress Celina Jaitley shared a post regarding the India-Pakistan war that took place on December 3, 1971. In which she was seen remembering the bravery of her late Colonel father.

Sharing a post on Instagram, Celina Jaitley wrote in the caption, “I start with the war cry of Kumaon Regiment, ‘Kalika Mata Ki Jai’. On this day (3 December 1971) the war broke out, at that time my father Lieutenant Vikram Kumar Jaitley was 21 years old and had received deployment orders. Little did he and his 17 Kumaon comrades know that their battalion would etch its name in history with ‘Battle Honour’. “However, they also suffered the most.”

“I often wonder what was going through my father’s mind at that time – a young officer, just 21 years old. He could not even imagine that he would be seriously injured and would carry the scars of bullets and shrapnel for the rest of his life. For his bravery he received two medals and later the Sena Medal. Medals that represent unimaginable sacrifice.”

The ‘No Entry’ fame actress brimming with pride said, “Growing up, I saw my father wearing a uniform adorned with so many medals. But now as a mature person I really understand the sacrifice and bravery behind each of them.

“He would often say that being a Kumaoni soldier, you are related to man-eaters. He had an unwavering belief in these words inspired by the battalion’s motto ‘Parakramo Vijayate’ (Victory to Valour) and ‘Kalika Mata Ki Jai’, which The 1971 war was an important chapter in our country’s history, in which nearly 3,000 Indians lost their lives. And about 12,000 soldiers were injured.It was a war in which the heroes of the country taught a lesson to the enemies with unmatched bravery and sacrifice.

“Today, I salute the courage and valor of my father Colonel Vikram Kumar Jaitley (SM) and his battalion, the brave soldiers, NCOs and officers of 17 Kumaon and our entire Indian Armed Forces, who fought to defend our country. Fought.”
