Jaipur : Resident doctors of Rajasthan have returned to work in the emergency services and Intensive Care Units (ICUs) of government hospitals. The state government has ordered the formation of committees by medical colleges to ensure the safety of doctors on duty in hospitals.
Boycott of work in OPD will continue
However, they will continue to boycott work in OPD in solidarity with the ongoing movement against the rape and murder of a junior woman doctor in Kolkata. Jaipur Association of Resident Doctors (JARD) President Dr. Manohar Seoul said that ‘Keeping in mind the public interest and the agreements made by the Rajasthan government on the demands of resident doctors, we have decided to resume emergency services in the state.’ Resident doctors had announced to boycott work in OPD and wards on August 12 in support of the movement over the Kolkata incident, but essential services were exempted from this. Later, resident doctors intensified the movement and boycotted emergency services as well.
A committee will be formed to consider the demands
In a meeting between the representatives of resident doctors and Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khinvsar on Wednesday, it was decided to form a committee to consider the demands. The medical minister said, ‘7-8 points were resolved in the meeting today. Resident doctors will resume work in emergency and ICU.’

Following the meeting, the Directorate of Medical Education issued an order to principals of government medical colleges in the state to form committees at the college level to ensure safety of healthcare professionals, including adequate number of high-resolution CCTV cameras, well-trained security guards at strategic locations, including entrances, exits, corridors, dark spots and vulnerable locations.
