New Delhi, December 5 (IANS). Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital has achieved a significant milestone by inaugurating a state-of-the-art endoscopy suite and a 10-bed day care department dedicated to children.
This center has been started with the help of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. This dedicated pediatric endoscopy suite aims to provide diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy services to children for gastroenterology and hepatology ailments. This suit has a trained and dedicated team. This service will be available free of charge or at very low cost.
Dr. Sandeep Bansal, Medical Superintendent of Safdarjung Hospital, said, “The central government has provided us this facility. A pancreatic endoscopy unit and day care facility has been set up at Safdarjung Hospital. This is an important milestone in itself, because this facility has been provided by the Government of India for the first time, in which both diagnostic and therapeutic facilities are available together.
He told that it is especially very useful for those children who are very young. Earlier, we used to spare some time in the adult endoscopy unit and do pediatric endoscopy, which had a limitation that we could not examine children weighing less than 10 kg. Now through this new facility, we have the ability to perform endoscopy on newborn children and premature children also.
He said that it not only provides testing but also treatment facilities. This means that now children can also be treated through endoscopy in our hospital.
Dr. Bansal said, “We have a very capable team for its success, which includes Dr. Ratan Gupta, Head of the Department of Pediatrics, and Dr. Meena, Professor of Pediatric Gastroenterology. Along with this, I am joined by two young colleagues, Dr. Richa and Dr. Meena. We are assembling a very good team because this is a very special and very few places have this facility, even in private hospitals.”
He said, “Our people are doing very good work and for this I would like to thank the Government of India and our Health Ministry, who helped us in this direction.”
