Mumbai, November 26 (IANS). Maulana Sajjad Nomani, who came into limelight for his controversial statement on ‘Vote Jihad’ during Maharashtra elections, has now apologized for his statement. After the election results, Maulana Nomani issued a letter apologizing unconditionally and clarified that his intention was not to hurt anyone’s sentiments. Bharatiya Janata Party leader Kirit Somaiya has complained to the Election Commission on this.
Speaking to IANS, he said, “Today Sajjad Nomani himself admitted that he had tried to endanger the vote politics and religion of Muslims, and for this he has also apologized. I have requested the Election Commission that an FIR should be registered against Sajjad Nomani and strictest action should be taken.”
He said, “Now who will be the face of the Chief Minister in the grand alliance? This question belongs to the people of Maharashtra, because the one who takes Maharashtra to the forefront in the direction of development will become the Chief Minister.”
On Constitution Day, he said, “Today is Constitution Day, and during the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections many kinds of things were spread on the issue of the Constitution. Regarding the way vote politics and an attempt was made to incite religious sentiments, I have to say that Rahul Gandhi and Uddhav Thackeray tried their best to mislead the voters of Maharashtra. But the people of Maharashtra gave him a befitting reply in the assembly elections.”
He said, “Some people repeatedly say that the Constitution is in danger, but do these people who oppose Baba Saheb Ambedkar understand the real importance of the Constitution? Today his opponents, who once called themselves protectors of the Constitution, are now in trouble in the Maharashtra Assembly.
Finally, on Priyanka Gandhi’s victory from Wayanad, he said, “Three people from the same family are in the Lok Sabha, is it in accordance with the Constitution? Despite this, only a few Congress MLAs have won in the Maharashtra Assembly. So what will happen to Congress now? Is their aim to promote nepotism?”
