Virar, 29 November (IANS). The national level Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation Marathon will be held once again with the 12th edition on December 8, 2024.
With an increased prize money of around Rs 58.93 lakh and the re-introduction of the Battle Run, the event is offering the highest prize money among races in the country, especially for Indian players. A separate prize money has also been increased to encourage amateur runners in the Vasai-Virar belt.
Dignitaries associated with organizing the marathon, including Vasai Virar City Municipal Corporation Commissioner Anil Kumar Pawar, made this announcement at a press conference in Virar on Friday.
Continuing the tradition of inviting India’s top athletes to attend the event in their presence, 2016 Olympic bronze medalist wrestler Sakshi Malik is coming as the event ambassador for the 12th edition.
Junior for boys and girls aged 16 to 18 years in the entire Palghar district, with free admission for boys and girls in the age groups 10 to 12, 12 to 13 and 14 to 16 years in schools in Vasai Virar division. The race has been organized with minimal fees. Prize money and all facilities will also be provided in all these races.
Vasai Virar City Municipal Corporation Marathon is the only national level marathon in the country organized by the Municipal Corporation. Started in 2011, the event has attracted some of the country’s leading professional long-distance runners and is now seeing an increase in the number of amateur competitors as well.
The Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation (VMC) Marathon has once again attracted top long distance athletes, competing for the prize money. The full marathon will be led by Army’s Pradeep Singh, who clocked a personal best of 2:16.55. He will face a tough challenge from army colleague Dhanwant Prahlad, who has a personal record of 2:18.10 seconds. Two-time champion and last year’s runner-up Mohit Rathod also has a record of 2:18.05 seconds in 2022.
In the women’s half marathon, defending champion Prajakta Godbole of Maharashtra set a personal record (PB) of 1:14.21, while Phoolan Pal set a personal record (PB) of 1:16.20, while Archana Jadhav and Tamsi Singh also ran in the event. Will take.
The men’s half marathon elite field will be led by Arun Rathore, who clocked a PB time of 1:04.39. Now he will face Dinesh (1 minute 05.44) and Deepak Kumbhar (1 minute 5.55).
The winner of the marathon will be given Rs 3 lakh, the winner of half marathon will be given Rs 2 lakh each and the winner of marathon will be given Rs 2 lakh each.
