Mumbai, November 20 (IANS). Voting for the assembly elections ended in Maharashtra on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam, contesting from Dindoshi Assembly seat in the state, has accused Shiv Sena (UBT) workers of attacking his booth workers.
Speaking to IANS, Sanjay Nirupam said, “Voting was going on peacefully in Dindoshi Assembly. All voters were voting freely for their favorite candidates. Gradually it started appearing that the Mahayuti candidate was getting more support, which created panic and frustration among the UBT workers and their candidates. After this, their workers attacked our workers in Pathanwadi and Sanjay Nagar. When I got this information, I reached there.”
He said that this is democracy, in which if one candidate loses in the elections, the other wins. This is normal and victory and defeat should be accepted with full respect. But the uproar that was created before the defeat is extremely objectionable. He said, “When I reached there, our workers were attacked and a large crowd had gathered, influencing the voters. There was also a restaurant nearby, where these people created a scene. I Scolded the people present and said that you will have to leave from here, because this is a violation of the code of conduct.
Later Shiv Sena workers decided to lodge an FIR in the matter.
Sanjay Nirupam said, “They were Muslims, people from the Muslim community of Pathanwadi and Sanjay Nagar. But religion doesn’t matter. Whether you are Hindu or Muslim, you are free to vote freely. But it is wrong to intimidate or threaten anyone, and if a lone activist is seen, it is wrong to surround him. All we demand from the police is that action should be taken against those who were responsible for attacking our workers. Later, I saw that all the shops were closed by evening. “These types of incidents are normal, but we should take it seriously.”
