Lucknow, November 18 (IANS). So far 11 children have died in the fire that broke out in the NICU of the Medical College in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh on November 15. After this incident, the administration in the state capital Lucknow has come into action mode.
All government and non-government fire safety audits and safety related orders have been given in the capital Lucknow. The administration has taken suo motu cognizance and ordered to check all the standards. This information was given by the district CMO NB Singh.
Speaking to IANS, he said, “After the tragic incident in Jhansi, we have become completely alert and have taken cognizance of it since Saturday and have taken necessary steps. Under this, we have issued instructions to conduct fire safety and electric security audit in all private and government hospitals. Mock drills regarding fire safety have also started in our government hospitals from yesterday. Besides, notice has also been issued to private hospitals. In the notice, they have been asked to ensure that they get fire safety and electrical audit done on their own behalf. If any deficiency is found in any hospital, action will be taken by the fire department.”
He said, “From our side, instructions have been given to all the hospitals to remove their shortcomings as soon as possible. Those hospitals which do not follow these instructions will be given further notice to close or seal the hospital. The health department is fully alert and making preparations to ensure that no such incident happens in Lucknow. We are trying to identify our shortcomings and taking steps to overcome them.”
