Poonch, 29 November (IANS). Security forces on Thursday recovered suspicious items, including two IEDs and explosive material, during a search operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district.
According to officials, the area was immediately cordoned off after receiving information that a suspicious object was seen under Chhajla bridge in Mendhar tehsil. After this the bomb disposal squad was called.
During the search operation, security forces have found two IEDs, RDX-like explosive substance weighing more than one kilogram, one battery, two blankets and some food items. The entire area has been cordoned off and a search operation is being conducted. The Poonch Mendhar road has been closed.
Security forces termed the recovery as a major success and said it could be part of a possible attack plan by terrorists. At present, investigation into the matter is going on and security has been tightened in the area.
Police and other security agencies are conducting a thorough investigation to identify the people involved in this case and ascertain their intentions.
Earlier, on Thursday, the police arrested two terrorists who were allegedly planning to carry out destructive activities in Doda and Udhampur districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
The accused was allegedly in touch with cross-border terror handlers through various social media platforms. Incriminating materials including documents were recovered from his possession.
In recent times, there have been several encounters between terrorists and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir, in which many terrorists and their commanders were killed. Some security forces personnel were also martyred.
Highly trained terrorists are carrying out ambush attacks on vehicles in Jammu and are using M4 assault rifles along with grenades and bullets.
Analysts say the last few years have seen a rise in terrorism in the Pir Panjal region that divides the Kashmir Valley from Jammu. Continuous counter-terrorism operations in Kashmir have pushed terrorists into the mountains and areas that were free from terrorism where they hide.
