what is the story
Lord Shri Ram had won over Ravana by seeing the Neelkanth bird on the day of Dussehra. The tradition of seeing the Neelkanth bird on this festival of victory of goodness has been going on for centuries. It is believed that when Lord Shri Ram returned after killing Ravana, he was accused of the sin of killing a Brahmin. To get relief from this, he worshiped Lord Shiva along with Lakshman.
