Senior BJP leader Sushil Modi, Ex Deputy Chief Minister Of Bihar, Dies At 72

New Delhi: Senior BJP leader Sushil Modi passed away at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi this evening. The 72-year-old was suffering from cancer and was admitted to the intensive care unit of AIIMS for a month.

The fit leader, who was once the most popular face of the BJP in Bihar, also withdrew from the ongoing parliamentary elections citing health reasons. He made the announcement on social media on April 3 with a tweet about X.

“I have been fighting cancer for six months. I feel like it’s time to tell people. I can’t do anything in the parliamentary elections. I told the prime minister everything. Always grateful and always committed to Bihar country and party,” he wrote.

His absence is expected to be keenly felt in Bihar, where he wielded considerable influence in a party three decades in the making.

He served as Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar for over eleven years in two terms between 2005 and 2020.

Senior BJP leaders Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh and Ravi Shankar Prasad expressed their condolences to him.
