New Delhi, December 1 (IANS). Taking action on the increasing incidents of vehicle theft in Shahdara area of Delhi, the police has arrested a thief. The police also recovered three stolen vehicles.
The police department had formed a team under the leadership of SI Vikrant Chaudhary on the increasing incidents of theft. The team was tasked to monitor the activities of auto thieves operating in various areas of Shahdara district and identify the suspects. Based on secret information, the team laid a trap near Rajiv Gandhi Hospital and arrested the accused named Tufeeq Ahmed alias Suhail. A stolen red TVS Apache motorcycle was recovered from him, which had a fake number plate and the engine number was tampered with.
Investigation revealed that this motorcycle was stolen from Shaheen Bagh police station area. On the trail of the accused, the police also recovered two stolen scooters near Jhilmil metro station near Shahdara flyover. One of these was white colored and the other was black colored Honda Activa, which were stolen from different police stations of Shahdara district.
During interrogation, accused Tufiq Ahmed told that he worked in a factory and was addicted to alcohol. He started stealing to meet his basic needs and earned money by selling stolen motorcycles to people around him. He also admitted that he was earlier involved in a theft case in Ghaziabad.
Police said that with this arrest three theft cases have been solved and expressed hope that more vehicles may be recovered. This action has proved that timely investigation and strict monitoring helps in arresting the criminals. The police have appealed to the citizens to immediately report such incidents to the police, so that a safe environment can be ensured in the society.
