New Delhi, November 16 (IANS). Cricket fans can never forget the year 2022 and the last date of December. On this day, wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant became the victim of a terrible car accident. This accident was so dangerous that his life was narrowly saved. Remembering this moment, Ravi Shastri gave a big statement regarding Pant.
Seeing Pant covered in injuries in the hospital was a reminder of the seriousness of the accident. At that time Shastri was not thinking about Pant’s return to cricket. He was more worried about whether the cricketer would ever be able to live a normal life.
“To be honest, if you had seen him, you would not have expected him to play cricket again,” Shastri told news.com.au.
Pant’s accident occurred in the early hours of December when he was going to his hometown Roorkee in his car. During this time, the car collided with a divider on the highway and overturned. Not only this, the car was completely engulfed in fire. Pant, who was trapped inside, had to break the windscreen and came out with great difficulty.
He expresses his gratitude to Haryana Roadways driver Sushil Kumar and others who helped him avoid the accident for saving his life.
Talking about 2024, Pant has not only started walking but is also dominating the field. He has made a brilliant comeback in the Indian team, has contributed significantly in winning the World Cup and has re-established himself as a key player in the Test team.
Shastri said, “Just to recover and play cricket was a miracle. Then to play in a World Cup winning team and be a part of the Test team is really a remarkable achievement.”
Shastri cited Pant’s continued hard work and newfound respect for the game as important factors in his recovery.
“When you talk to him now, his respect for the game is even greater. I have seen him work really hard over the last few months to get in shape to play Test cricket,” he said.
Australia is one country where Pant has achieved remarkable success. Pant’s memorable unbeaten 89 at the Gabba in 2021 ended Australia’s 32-year undefeated run at the ground.
