Tonk : Gokarneshwar Mahadev Temple situated on the Triveni Sangam Bisalpur Dam of Banas River in Tonk district is a temple in which a 40 feet long Shivlinga is present emerging from the earth. It is said about this temple that in this temple situated in the cave of Aravali mountain range, Dashanan Ravana, the greatest ascetic devotee of Lord Shiva, had performed severe penance here. This temple is present at Triveni Sangam and there is a belief in the Puranas that where three rivers meet, that place automatically becomes a pilgrimage. According to Hindu religious beliefs, the month of Sawan has special importance and it is the month of Shiva devotees in which worship, Shiv Abhishek and Kanwar Yatras keep going on. This temple is especially famous for being located on the banks of the Banas river near the Bisalpur dam and is an ancient Hindu temple located in Bisalpur village which is dedicated to the Gokarneshwar form of Lord Shiva. The marks of Gokarna are present on the self-manifested Shivalinga present in the temple. The temple was built in the 12th century by Vigraharaj Chauhan (Vigraharaj IV) of the Chauhan dynasty. Who is also known as Bisaldev. According to religious beliefs and mythological beliefs, there are 12 Jyotirlingas and 108 sub-Jyotirlingas in India, the temple of Gokarneshwar Mahadev is one of them. It is believed that in this temple, Ravana, the biggest devotee of Lord Shiva, had performed penance here for many years to please Shiva.

How did Gokarneshwar Mahadev Temple get its name
Gomata is considered to be the abode of 36 crore gods and goddesses and the self-manifested Shivling present in the Gokarneshwar Mahadev temple was named Gaukarneshwar Mahadev after Mahatma Gaukarna and this place came to be known as Gaukarneshwar Mahadev. Mahatma Gaukarna had made his brother Dhundhakari listen to Shrimad Bhagwat for a week here to attain salvation.
According to the legends related to the temple, Ravana had a boon
According to the beliefs related to Gokarneshwar Mahadev Temple, when Ravana performed severe penance here, Lord Shiva himself, pleased with Ravana’s penance, gave this Shivling to Ravana in the form of Atma Linga. Apart from this, he gave a boon that wherever this Shivling is kept, it will be established there. In such a situation, Ravana started leaving for Lanka from here, during this time the gods started worrying that if Ravana established Shivling in Lanka, then Ravana would become immortal and it would be difficult to defeat him. In such a situation, the gods forced Ravana to urinate with the divine power and as Ravana kept the Shivling here on the river bank, this Shivling got established here. Due to the presence of Bisalpur Dam near this ancient temple of tourism importance, tourists come here throughout the year. But the month of Sawan is special for this ancient Shiva temple. When Shiva devotees take Kanwar Yatra from here and the period of Shiva Abhishek and rituals continues in the temple.
