Singapore’s High Commissioner to India Simon Wong meets Odisha CM

Bhubaneswar, December 10 (IANS). Singapore’s High Commissioner to India Simon Wong met Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at Lok Seva Bhawan on Tuesday. During this, Simon Wong told that Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam will visit Odisha during his visit to India in January 2025.

Singapore will be the first country partner in ‘Utkarsh Odisha-Make in Odisha Conclave 2025’. President Thurman’s visit will mark an important milestone in the 60 years of strong diplomatic relations between Singapore and India.

According to media reports, the discussions between Odisha CM and Simon Wong focused on enhancing ties in petrochemicals, green energy, IT and tourism. The Chief Minister emphasized the collaboration potential of Odisha and thanked Singapore for its growing partnership and support.

Let us tell you that there are deep historical, cultural and economic relations between the two countries. This relationship has now transformed into a strategic partnership covering areas such as trade, defence, technology and cultural exchanges. Singapore is one of the largest sources of foreign direct investment (FDI) in India. India also has a strong presence in Singapore through companies in the IT, banking and manufacturing sectors. With shared values ​​of democracy, innovation and sustainable development, both countries are keen to strengthen ties for mutual development and regional stability.

The President of Singapore is visiting India in January next year to make bilateral relations memorable. Additionally, during his visit to Singapore last month, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi had requested the Singapore government to also accommodate President Tharman’s visit to Odisha. Accepting the invitation of the Chief Minister, the President has decided to visit Odisha during his visit to India.
