Sirohi opium smugglers sentenced to 10 years imprisonment and fine of Rs 2 lakh each

Sirohi : Special Judge of NDPS Court, Rupa Gupta, has found two accused of smuggling guilty and sentenced them to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment. According to Special Public Prosecutor Dr. Laxman Singh Bala, the then Police Officer of Barlut, Devi Chand Dhaka, received an information at around 8:25 am on December 7, 2012, that a person from Madhya Pradesh was traveling in a truck. Filled with opium milk, he is going towards Jalore via Jawal. During the blockade near Vada village, the box-like lid behind the driver’s side of the truck was found locked, the key of which was found with a young man named Omprakash who was riding in the truck. Om Prakash opened the lock and found a black colored liquid inside a transparent plastic bag, which upon examination was found to be milk of opium. When asked about the license, no documents of any kind were found.

On weighing the five packets found in the box, 51 kg 200 grams of opium milk was found. Along with seizing the opium milk, the police arrested both the youths. After investigation, both the accused were presented in the court along with the charge sheet. During the debate in the court, the court heard Public Prosecutor Dr. Laxman Singh Bala. Agreeing with the arguments presented, special judge of NDPS court, Rupa Gupta, while giving the verdict, accused Jaitaram son of Harjiram and Omprakash alias Prakash son of Kasaram, resident of Kotra, of opium milk smuggling. Police Station Karada District Jalore has been punished with 10 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2 lakh each.
