Situation is absolutely calm in Sambhal, no accused involved in violence will be spared: Commissioner Anjaneya Kumar Singh

Sambhal, 25 November (IANS). Many people have died in the violence that broke out during the mosque survey in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile, Moradabad Commissioner Anjaneya Kumar Singh has given a statement regarding the situation in Sambhal.

Moradabad Commissioner Anjaneya Kumar Singh, in response to a question from a journalist on Monday, said that the situation in Sambhal is very calm. Shops are also open. Some shops are closed at the place where the disturbance took place. Otherwise the situation outside is normal. Now there is no tension of any kind. There is police presence everywhere. The situation is under control and is becoming normal. We have full hope that the situation will gradually become normal.

Police are taking action as per the evidence. Many FIRs have been registered so far. An FIR has been registered against SP MP Ziaur Rahman Burke and the MLA’s son on charges of instigation. Further investigation is ongoing. CCTV cameras are being checked.

Apart from this, he said that a survey was being conducted in the mosque on the orders of the court. The survey was going to be conducted for the second time on Sunday. Everyone had the opportunity to express their views in the court. There was an opportunity to speak in the upper court also. Despite this, it was decided to act in such a way that it would spoil the atmosphere there.

No accused involved in violence will be spared. Will take strict action against everyone. We are also keeping an eye on those who are spreading rumors in this matter. We are also identifying those who tried to damage the mosque by pelting stones at it. In all these cases, wherever there is a matter of provocation, we will take action.

Apart from this, in response to a question, he said that till now the death of four people has been confirmed. Post mortem of all four has been done. The post-mortem report has prima facie revealed that the bullet was fired from a country-made gun. This will also be investigated further. Police will investigate into this. Magisterial inquiry has also been ordered. Everyone will have a role to play in the investigation. As further evidence becomes available, we will take strict action. There is also a provision for imposing NSA and we will take action in that also.

He said that security was complete during the survey and is still complete. This work has been done by instigating the new boys. The people who gathered there were neither students nor farmers. There was no such issue, only the mosque was being surveyed. The survey was being conducted on the orders of the court and we were providing security. There was no question of confronting the police. There are a lot of people trying to paint this thing in different ways and from different angles.

They are not able to answer why people gathered there. What did the new age boys gather for? Why was no elder there to control them? Even if he had to come, why didn’t the elders come?

He further said that we are talking to the people. We are trying to talk to all parties and make them understand. Most of the boys who were involved in stone pelting were of schooling age. Many people are of working age. Many of them were also doing some business or the other. It is not good for anyone to leave their work and engage in such activities. We are fully prepared to ensure that such things do not happen again.
