Jaipur : Jaipur State’s largest government hospital SMS. Every day, the arrangements for more than 10 thousand patients in OPD are so bad that it seems as if the treatment itself has become ‘trauma’. Late Thursday night, Medical Secretary Ambrish Kumar spent about 5 hours in SMS Hospital, Trauma, Zanana and Gangauri Hospital and observed the situation. The most shocking incident was at the Trauma Centre. In the Trauma Centre, the ward boy was applying plaster to the patients. When asked, he said that…he has always had this responsibility. The system was so bad that patients were bringing blankets on rent (Rs 600 per piece) to protect themselves from cold. After this the officials were severely reprimanded. Instructions were immediately given that…doctors’ duty chart, mobile numbers and all necessary information should be pasted in the entire hospital.
Senior doctors were not found anywhere in the emergency and wards. Not even a trolley is available to bring patients to emergency. After this, Ambarish asked the reasons from all the officers one by one. No one could give a satisfactory answer. During the inspection, SMS Medical College Principal Dr. Deepak Maheshwari, Additional Director of Medical Education Department Naresh Goyal, SMS Superintendent Dr. Sushil Bhati, Additional Superintendent Dr. Pradeep Sharma, Deputy Superintendent Dr. Jagdish Modi and other officers were present.
Neither trolley nor trolley man for patients in emergency
Emergency and Ward: Medical Education Secretary reached SMS Hospital at 10:15 pm. Reached emergency after knowing the recruitment process. There were no trolleymen to bring the patients coming in ambulances inside. Even senior doctors were found missing from the spot. Dirt was found spread everywhere. After this, when we went to the wards, we came to know that the patients and their families were bringing blankets worth up to Rs 600 to protect themselves from cold. Most of the beds had torn bedsheets.
Janana and Gangauri: The entire system depends on the resident.
There were no senior doctors in Zanana Hospital and Gangauri Hospital and the hospital was running on the basis of residents. Even in the emergency there was only nursing staff and there was a lot of filth. Ambareesh directed to make complete arrangements at all places including labor room, ward, Neeku Piku and to paste the duty chart of doctors-nursing staff. He told the officials that the system should be improved in the next two-three days.
Blankets and bedsheets arrive but are not available.
The hospital provides everything from blankets to bedsheets for the patients, but the surprising thing is that these are not available to the patients at all. The question is, where do the blankets and bedsheets coming in such numbers go? Most of the bedsheets that are laid are torn. Ambareesh said that negligence in this will not be tolerated. Keeping in mind the winter season, he asked to buy good quality blankets as per requirement.
The big question is why there is no maintenance?
On maintenance of equipment, Ambareesh said that maintenance should be done on time. Small tasks should be completed on the basis of decentralized system. There is no dearth of budget for essential works. Doctors and other staff should be in uniform during duty time. Proper arrangements should be made for meals for the family members along with the patients.
