New Delhi, December 8 (IANS). Some people do not consider breakfast as important. They often skip breakfast in a hurry. But skipping breakfast can prove to be very dangerous and the person can also become a victim of dementia.
Dementia is a disease related to the brain. In this, brain cells get damaged and cognitive ability decreases. In dementia, there is a decline in memory, thinking, language, decision making and learning ability. Skipping breakfast is an important reason for this.
According to data from the US Centers for Disease Control, from 2015 to 2018, 15 percent of Americans over the age of 20 regularly skipped breakfast. Its prevalence has increased due to busyness in the morning, fasting or losing weight. At the same time, many people do not want to start the day with food.
According to a study in the ‘Journal of Neuro-Restoration’, skipping breakfast in the morning has quite negative effects. This creates stress in the body, which increases the secretion of cortisol. This increases belly fat over time. Not having breakfast also increases low blood sugar. This happens because the brain needs food, unless the brain gets it, it cannot think clearly. Glucose is called the primary fuel of the brain.
According to a study, skipping breakfast has some long-term negative effects on brain health. The researchers created some special conditions and divided the people participating in the research into two groups, so that those who skipped breakfast could be compared with those who had breakfast.
The participants who were part of the research were subjected to MRI, in which the brain of people who did not eat breakfast was seen shrinking, which is associated with the symptoms of dementia. In addition, blood tests conducted showed that the levels of some neurodegeneration biomarkers were higher than those who did not skip breakfast.
In such a situation, it is necessary to have breakfast regularly to avoid dementia. However, morning breakfast should not be too heavy.
