Smriti Irani, Shekhar Kapur become PMML members, Nripendra Mishra once again chairman of the executive council

New Delhi, January 15 (IANS). The Society and Executive Council of the Prime Minister’s Museum and Library (PMML) was reconstituted on Tuesday, with several new members inducted. Former Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Nripendra Mishra has once again been made the Chairman of the Executive Council.

This time many prominent names have joined the society of PMML. These include former Union Minister Smriti Irani, former Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog Rajiv Kumar, retired General Syed Ata Hasnain, famous filmmaker Shekhar Kapur and Vasudev Kamat of Sanskar Bharati. These people will bring their diverse experience and expertise to the organization, which will give a new direction to the growth of PMML.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will remain the president of the society and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will remain the vice-president. The number of members of the society has also been increased from 29 to 34. This expansion has been done under the restructuring order issued by the Ministry of Culture. The tenure of the new society and council will be five years.

However, some old members have been ousted in the restructuring. These include former Union Minister Anurag Thakur, University Grants Commission Chairman M. Jagdish Kumar, Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts Chairman Ram Bahadur Rai and journalist Rajat Sharma.

Interestingly, the Society of PMML now includes many important personalities who have contributed to national development. These include Sanjeev Sanyal, member of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council and Chamu Krishna Shastri, an educationist who played a role in formulating the National Education Policy. Apart from this, archaeologist K.K. Mohammed, who was part of the Babri Masjid excavation team in 1976, and B.R., the current head of the National Museum. Mani has also joined the society.

This restructuring is an important part of PMML’s growth, especially after the renaming of Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) to PMML in 2023. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had previously proposed building a museum dedicated to Indian prime ministers, and it was slated to be inaugurated in 2022. The objective of this museum is to preserve and present the legacy of the country’s leadership.
