Smriti’s century went in vain, Australia clean sweeps India 3-0

Perth, December 11 (IANS). Indian women’s cricket team’s opening batsman Smriti Mandhana’s 9th ODI century could not avert Team India’s defeat against host Australia. Australia’s Annabel Sutherland’s brilliant 110 runs and Ashley Gardner’s 5 wickets for 30 runs helped the Australian women’s team clean sweep the Indian team and win the series 3-0 on Wednesday.

Batting first, the 58-run partnership between Georgia Pole and Phoebe Litchfield was broken by India’s Arundhati Reddy, who took the wickets of Elise Perry and Beth Mooney and took 4 wickets for 27 runs. This is the best performance of his career.

However, he did not get full support from the other bowlers. Annabel’s catch was dropped on the personal score of 12 runs. Later he played an inning of 110 runs in 95 balls and hit 9 fours and 4 sixes. She was out with one ball remaining and the Australian team scored 298 runs at the loss of 6 wickets in the stipulated 50 overs.

In reply, Mandhana played a brilliant innings and scored 105 runs in 109 balls but the rest of the batting order could not do anything special. With Ashley’s brilliant five wickets, the Indian innings collapsed for 215 runs in 45.1 overs.

Earlier, Australia had defeated the Indian women’s team by 122 runs in the second ODI. The three-match ODI series started from 5 December. Australian women’s team defeated India by 5 wickets in the first match held on 5 December.
