Sriganganagar non-practicing advocates form separate bar association

Sriganganagar : There was anger on Thursday over the temporary list of 895 Bar Association members released by the three-member election committee for the Bar Association elections. Out of more than 1400 advocates who had voted in the last election, the Election Committee considered about 500 advocates as non-practitioners and excluded them from the voter list. Expressing anger over this, the advocates considered non-practitioners elected a separate president on Thursday and formed the Maharaja Ganga Singh Bar Association and elected Krishna Saharan as the new president.

The new president Saharan, elected on behalf of lawyers considered non-practitioner, locked the Bar Association chamber on Thursday. This spread anger among practicing lawyers. He asked Saharan to open the lock. The lock was opened in the afternoon and a public meeting was held. Saharan boycotted this general meeting.

Non-practitioners had expressed anger yesterday

Last time in the union elections, 1417 advocates took part in the voting process. This time, when the election committee was formed for the Bar Association elections, the three-member committee deleted about five hundred names from these more than 1400 members saying that these lawyers were non-practitioners. When the list became public, non-practitioner lawyers contacted the election committee expressing their anger over it. The election committee members re-examined the list and made minor changes but did not consider non-practitioner lawyers as members of the bar association.
