Sriganganagar : Gram Panchayat 3 E Chhoti under UIT and many places on SSB Road have been in darkness for the last three months. BJP leader Rajat Swamy on Tuesday demanded the UIT Secretary to fix the street lights. Swamy told that the street lights installed on SSB Road State Highway divider are switched off. UIT officials are not even able to get it rectified. The worst situation is of 3E Choti and SSB Road around BSF Campus. Electricity of most of the street light poles on the SSB road coming out from here is switched off. It is getting closed even further.
Due to darkness on the road, anti-social elements keep sitting on the roadside. Accidents are also happening. It is the responsibility of UIT workers to repair street lights when they are switched off due to malfunction, bulb fuse or any other problem, but at present the street lights are not being repaired for the last several months. Street lights are being switched off one by one in the streets.
Street lights on most of the poles in 3E Choti Gali No. 8 and 9 are switched off. At the same time, when the shops on SSB Road are closed, there is darkness on the main road. Local shopkeeper Robin Singh said that he has requested UIT to get the street lights improved, but till now the necessary improvements have not been made. There is a lot of anger against UIT among the local people and shopkeepers.
