New Delhi, December 12 (IANS). The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has strongly opposed the Union Cabinet’s approval of the ‘One Nation, One Election’ bill.
AAP’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal said in a post on social media platform X that the country needs ‘One Nation, One Education’ and ‘One Nation, One Healthcare System’ and not ‘One Nation, One Election’. of. ‘One Nation, One Election’ is a wrong priority of BJP.
At the same time, it has been said on behalf of Aam Aadmi Party that it should be assumed that once they hold elections simultaneously in the entire country, then governments will be formed in Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Jammu-Kashmir and Haryana. The tenure of Punjab and Uttar Pradesh is still left. How will you conduct elections for the entire country simultaneously? How will we conduct elections for those governments whose terms are left?
The biggest question is whether it is an excuse that the government is saying that holding elections simultaneously will reduce expenses. Will holding simultaneous elections reduce the number of voters? Will the number of EVMs reduce? In simultaneous elections, the same number of voters will participate as will participate in the elections at different times. Where did the question of expenditure come from in this? Then, they talk about code of conduct.
AAP asked the question and said that if it is assumed that if there are state elections, then the code of conduct is imposed for the same period as it is imposed during elections across the country.
Let us tell you that the Union Cabinet on Thursday approved the bill related to ‘One Nation, One Election’. The winter session of Parliament is going on, this bill can be introduced in Parliament in this session. The Union Cabinet has already approved the Ramnath Kovind Committee report on ‘One Nation, One Election’. This bill paves the way for one election in the entire country.
According to sources, the central government now wants to build a consensus on the bill. The government can send it to the Joint Parliamentary Committee or JPC for detailed discussion.
