Kota : Rainfall in Rajasthan has broken the record of the last several years. This time, more than fifty percent of the average rainfall has been recorded so far. Most of the big dams of the state are overflowing and if there is more heavy rain in the coming week, then all these dams are ready to overflow. Among these dams, there is also a dam when it overflowed the last time, all its gates were opened and more than seven lakh cusecs of water was released. After that, the entire city was flooded. This dam is Kota Barrage, five years ago Kota started flowing with its water. Chambal River Front is built on its downstream.
About 2.5 lakh hectares of land in Hadauti region of Rajasthan is irrigated from Kota Barrage Sagar Dam and same amount of land is in Madhya Pradesh where water from the dam reaches and irrigation is done there. There are chances of the dam getting filled to the brim. The department has kept one gate of the dam open for about seven days and water is being supplied continuously from it. There are some 19 gates in the dam. Electricity is also produced on a large scale from the water of Kota Barrage. Apart from Kota Barrage, there are three other dams which are built on Chambal river. All four of these remain almost full. Whenever the water level in Kota Barrage starts decreasing, water is released from other dams into Kota Barrage and it is filled. This time good rain has been recorded in Kota division also.
