Jalore News Desk: Protest continues for the 10th day in Jalore demanding distribution of water from Jawai Dam. Farmers from 300 villages participating in the protest blocked the Jodhpur-Barmer highway. The administration had also deployed a large number of forces to quell the farmers’ protest. This protest is regarding distribution of dam water, of which farmers are demanding one-third share and the pending amount of insurance claim. At the same time, traders have also kept the market closed in support of the farmers. Due to this protest yesterday, the roads leading to Jalore remained closed till afternoon.
Demonstration took place outside the Chief Whip’s house also
Farmers burnt tires and raised slogans at Haridev Joshi and Hospital intersection. Barmer-Jodhpur highway blocked. Farmers also demonstrated and raised slogans outside the residence of Jalore MLA and Chief Whip Jageshwar Garg in Polji Nagar. However, the MLA was not present at his residence. Farmers complained that no official contacted them in the last 9 days.
ASP tried to restore traffic order, farmers rejected
The protesters say, “We will continue our protest until all our demands are met.” ASP Motaram and DSP Gautam Jain also held a meeting with the protesting farmers. He asked farmers to remove tractors and other vehicles from the roads to restore vehicular movement. However, the farmers rejected the police instructions and continued the protest.
