Karauli : This time all the records of water filling and drainage in the district’s largest Panchna Dam have been broken. Today, the highest water level in Panchna Dam in the last two decades is 258.45 meters. The dam with a filling capacity of 2100 MCFT has 2022 MCFT i.e. 96.37% water filling, which is the highest water filling in the last two decades. Special report by correspondent Manoj Jain regarding water logging and drainage in Panchna Dam. The highest water filling level of Panchna Dam, the largest in the district, is 258.62 meters and total water filling capacity is 2100 MCFT. In the last two decades, the water level in Panchna Dam was 258.40 meters in July 2008.
After heavy rains in this area, there was a strong inflow of water into Panchna Dam and on August 8, when the water level was 258.35 meters, drainage of the dam was started by opening the gates of the dam. Due to continuous inflow of water into the dam, for the first time after the construction of the dam, water was drained by opening the gates for 39 consecutive days. The gates of the dam were closed when the rains stopped and the water level reached 257.90 meters on September 15.
This time there has been a record 8200 MCFT water withdrawal from Panchna Dam. This is enough water to fill the dam four times. Earlier, 4055 MCFT water was withdrawn from Panchna Dam in the year 2008, 4637 MCFT in 2013 and 4200 MCFT in 2016. The highest water filling level of Panchna Dam is 258.62 meters and currently the water filling in the dam is 258.45 meters. Due to the drainage of water from the dam into the Gambhir River, the ground water level in the downstream area of the river has increased. The ground water level has increased significantly in all the water sources at Karauli district headquarters including the villages near the dam.
