Jaipur : The government is going to take a decision soon on the 303 colleges started under Rajya Cess during the Congress government. The government can consider merging 100 of these colleges. Apart from this, the government will remove the remaining 200 colleges from Rajya Cess and operate them itself. About two months ago, the government had formed a high power committee to review 303 colleges. The committee formed under the coordination of Vardhman Mahaveer Open University Prof. Kailash Chand Sodani has submitted the review report of 303 colleges to the government. The report has recommended merging the colleges and operating them by the government itself.
Colleges do not have basic facilities
During the review, the committee has accepted that the facilities provided are not in proportion to the number of colleges opened. The biggest problem is of buildings. Many colleges do not have buildings, they are running on rent or are being run in schools. Apart from this, there is a lack of furniture in the colleges. In such a situation, about 100 colleges have been identified which have government schools within a distance of two to four km. Rajasthan colleges can be merged in these government colleges.
A big problem, how to follow NEP
Studies have started in most universities in Rajasthan under the National Education Policy. In such a situation, there are no teachers in many colleges of Rajasthan. Due to this, studies are not being done through the semester system. This is the reason why children’s studies are getting affected. The committee has also done a review keeping this in mind. If the colleges are run by the government, then basic facilities will be available.
The condition of higher education in the state is worse
RUKTA General Secretary Banay Singh said that the government should not limit itself to merging colleges. The condition of higher education in the state is bad. If the government has conducted a review committee, then it should also implement the recommendations made by it to improve higher education. Instead of doing politics, quality education should be provided.
The level of education will not improve by closing or opening colleges
Rajasthan State Higher Education Council Vice Chairman Prof. D.S. Choudawat said that the previous government had started the Rajcess colleges after some thought. But the government could not provide basic facilities to the colleges. The level of education will not improve by closing or opening the colleges. Rajcess colleges were started so that colleges could be run by hiring temporary teachers under the Vidya Sambal Yojana. The scheme did not progress as per the concept under which it was started. There is a provision in NEP that the government should spend 6 percent of the budget on education. But not even 3 percent is given to education. Therefore, quality education can be provided only if whichever government it is, provides teachers and infrastructure.
