One such secret is buried in Kuldhara village of Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan. This village has been deserted for the last 170 years. A village that became deserted overnight and for centuries people have not been able to understand what was the secret behind this village being deserted.
Rajasthan is a state where every city has many secrets and stories related to history which makes it special. This state, which was special for kings and Maharajas, used to scare people for many reasons. India’s scariest fort is here, which is called Bhangarh Fort. But not only Bhangarh, there is a haunted village here, where people are afraid to go even during the day, let alone at night. The story of this village is quite shocking. The name of this village is Kuldhara
There is a strange mystery about the desolation of Kuldhara village. Actually, the story of Kuldhara started about 200 years ago, when Kuldhara was not a ruin but the surrounding 84 villages were inhabited by Paliwal Brahmins. But then Kuldhara was affected by someone’s evil eye, that person was the Diwan of the state, Salam Singh. The dirty eyes of the promiscuous Diwan Salam Singh fell on a beautiful girl of the village. The Diwan was so crazy about that girl that he just wanted to get her at any cost. For this, he started pressurizing the Brahmins. The limit was crossed when the Diwan sent a message to the girl’s house that if he did not get the girl by the next full moon, then he would attack the village and take away the girl.
This fight between the Diwan and the villagers was now about the honour of a virgin girl as well as the self-respect of the village. A meeting of the Paliwal Brahmins was held at the village Chaupal and more than 5000 families decided to leave the principality for their honour. It is said that all the 84 villagers gathered in a temple to take a decision and the panchayats decided that no matter what happens, they will not give their girls to that Diwan. The next evening Kuldhara was so deserted that even birds do not enter the boundary of the village today. It is said that those Brahmins had cursed this place while leaving the village. Let us tell you that with changing times, 82 villages were rebuilt, but two villages Kuldhara and Khabha have not been inhabited till date despite all efforts. This village is now under the protection of the Archaeological Survey of India, which is opened to tourists every day in daylight.
It is said that this village is inhabited by spiritual powers. According to the people who visit Kuldhara village, which has become a tourist destination, the voices of the Paliwal Brahmins living here can still be heard. They always feel that someone is roaming around there. The sounds of the market, the chirping of women and the sound of their bangles and anklets are always there. The administration has built a gate on the border of this village, due to which tourists keep coming to visit during the day, but no one dares to cross this gate at night.
There is a temple in Kuldhara village which is still free from the curse. There is also a stepwell here which was the source of drinking water at that time. There are also some stairs to go down to a quiet corridor, it is said that some sounds are often heard here after dusk. People believe that the sound is the pain of the 18th century, which the Paliwal Brahmins went through. There are some houses in the village, where mysterious shadows are often seen. In daylight everything looks like a story of history, but as soon as evening falls, the doors of Kuldhara are closed and a mysterious world of spiritual powers comes to the fore. People say that whoever came here at night became a victim of an accident.
In May 2013, a team of Paranormal Society from Delhi, which researches ghosts, spent the night in Kuldhara village. The team believed that something unusual would definitely happen here. In the evening, their drone camera was taking pictures of the village from the sky, but as soon as it came above that stepwell, the camera dived in the air and fell to the ground. As if there was someone who did not approve of that camera. It is true that thousands of families migrated from Kuldhara, it is also true that even today a glimpse of Rajasthani culture is found in Kuldhara.
Anshul Sharma, Vice President of Paranormal Society, had told that we have a device called Ghost Box. Through this we ask questions to the spirits living in such places. The same was done in Kuldhara, where some voices were heard and in some cases the spirits also told their names. On the night of 4 May 2013 (Saturday), the team that went to Kuldhara found children’s handprints on the vehicles. When the team members returned after visiting Kuldhara village, they also saw children’s paw prints on the glass of their vehicles. (As told to the media by the members of the team that went to Kuldhara) But it is also true that the stories of ghosts in Kuldhara are just an illusion.
According to historians, the Paliwal Brahmins used to bury their wealth, which included huge amounts of gold, silver and diamonds and jewels, underground. That is why whoever comes here starts digging everywhere. With the hope that they might get hold of that gold. This village is still found scattered here and there.
