The temple was built by Raja Mansingh
The Jagat Shiromani temple in Amer was built by Maharaja Mansingh I at the behest of his wife Maharani Kanakwati. The king built the temple in memory of his son Jagat Singh. The Maharani wished that her son be remembered for centuries through this temple. For this reason, the temple was named Jagat Shiromani. The construction work of the temple started in 1599 AD and the temple was completed in 1608. Historian Devendra Kumar Bhagat told that the idol worshipped by Meerabai was in Chittor, which Raja Mansingh brought to Amer after conquering Chittor. Because the idol of Lord Krishna had become lonely there. It was said to build a temple to keep the idol fresh. Raja Mansingh’s wife Kanakawat built the temple in the name of son Jagat Singh. The temple was named Jagat Shiromani.

The foundation for the temple was laid in 1599 and the temple was completed in 1608. In those days, the sanctum sanctorum of the temple was built at a cost of about 9.72 lakh rupees. In the whole world, the idol of Meerabai and Krishna will be seen only in the Jagat Shiromani temple. The palanquin in which the idol of Krishna and Meera Bai was brought is also present in the temple. On the occasion of Jaljhulani Ekadashi, even today Lord Krishna is seated in the same palanquin and taken to the nearby lake and given a bath.

The cost of construction of the temple at that time was about 11.70 lakh rupees. Out of which 9.72 lakh rupees were spent on the construction of the temple, 1.25 lakh rupees on the statue of Garuda and 80 thousand rupees on the archway. The main worship places of the temple are the statues of Meera Girdhar Gopal and Vishnu. The huge statue of Garuda, the vehicle of Lord Vishnu, sits in front of the main hall with folded hands.
