Karauli : After decades of waiting, the Dholpur-Gangapur City via Karauli rail project approved about 13 years ago is still not being completed. Although after years of waiting, the work of the first phase of the project is going on from Sarmathura to Dholpur, but in the second phase, the DPR for the work of Sarmathura to Gangapur City via Karauli is still pending in the Railway Board. If this DPR of more than Rs 1861 crore is approved, then the dream of the residents of Karauli city and its adjoining areas will be fulfilled. Along with this, a new railway corridor will also be developed. People are hopeful about this project from the first general budget of Modi Government 3.0 on Tuesday.
DPR gets approval
In the first phase of the rail project, the work of converting narrow gauge to broad gauge is going on from Saramathura-Dholpur. While in the second phase, the DPR for the 76 km rail project from Saramathura to Gangapur City via Karauli is still pending in the Railway Board. If the work starts soon after getting approval in the budget, then the decades-old dream of the people of the area will be fulfilled. Along with this, a new railway corridor will also be developed from Jaipur to Dholpur. In such a situation, people are waiting for the approval of this DPR. The work of expansion of Saramathura-Karauli-Gangapur City rail line will start only after the approval of this DPR. It is worth noting that after decades of demand, Dholpur-Gangapur City via Karauli rail line was approved in the year 2010-2011. This gave people hope of fulfilling their dream of rail. But this rail project has moved at a slow pace since the beginning. Due to which the work of not even a single phase has been completed till now.
The foundation stone was laid in 2013
The survey work of the project was done in the year 2012-13 after approval. Also, the foundation stone of this project was laid in Sarmathura in the year 2013. After this the work also started, but then the work was stopped. After this the work started again. In the first phase of the project, the work of gauge conversion of about 69 km from Dholpur to Sarmathura is being done under North Central Railway Prayagraj. The estimated cost of this phase is about Rs 747 crore. While in the second phase, the rail track is to be extended from Sarmathura to Gangapur City via Karauli.
Goods shed should be expanded at railway station
Businessman Jagmohan Sharma said that there is hope of announcement of development of goods sheds in the Union Budget. As per the standards, the goods shed is 750 meters long and 15 meters wide. But in Hindaun, the 120 meter long goods shed on the 650 meter long platform is only 5 meters wide.
15 big bridges, 71 small bridges included
The DPR of the second phase includes the construction of 15 big bridges and 71 small bridges in the distance of about 76 km from Sarmathura to Gangapur City. 36 RUBs and 8 ROBs are also scheduled in this phase.
