Jaipur News Desk: Purchasing-selling cooperative societies are failing to deliver the wheat allotted under the Food Security Scheme to the beneficiaries. Due to non-fulfillment of allotted quota every month, five to eight thousand quintals of wheat is getting lapsed. Even in October, about 6 thousand quintals of wheat was not lifted till September 30, due to which the wheat of 1.20 lakh beneficiaries went waste. Food department officials are maintaining silence on this deteriorating distribution system.
1.55 lakh quintals of wheat has been allocated for November, but after 18 days only 8 thousand quintals have been lifted. Doubts are deepening regarding the lifting of the remaining 1.47 lakh quintals of wheat. Dealers alleged that transport contractors take tenders by showing many trucks on paper, whereas in reality they have only one or two trucks.
Missing wheat not lifted even after recovery
According to sources, the cooperative society had given the work of wheat transportation to a firm without tender, which made 2 thousand quintals of wheat go missing between July and September. When the matter came to light, the missing wheat was found, but despite this, the wheat allotted to the district is not being lifted properly from the depot. Due to no action being taken against those responsible, questions are being raised on the role of departmental officers.
