Ajmer : To promote solar energy production, rooftop solar power plants will be established in all 557 UG-PG colleges of the state. The state government has authorized Renewable Energy Corporation for this. Apart from conventional hydro and thermal power, the government has launched several schemes to promote solar power generation including Kusum Yojana, PM Suryodaya. Awareness about solar energy production has increased among the general public, but its scope is still limited. However, the government has decided to install rooftop solar energy panels in 557 UG-PG colleges under the Directorate of College Education. At present only 20 percent of colleges have rooftop solar panels installed. 80 percent of the colleges are dependent on electricity from Jaipur, Jodhpur and Ajmer discoms. The government has announced installation of rooftop solar panels in all colleges to promote solar energy production.
48 nodal officers appointed
Dr. V.K. Sharma, Joint Secretary, Directorate of College Education, said that 48 colleges have been made nodal for installing rooftop solar panels. Nodal officers will give information about solar energy panels, plants, load capacity and other information in various colleges.
Solar panels in 20 percent homes
In the state’s Jaipur, Jodhpur and Ajmer discoms, 30 percent of domestic consumers do not have rooftop solar panels installed in their homes. There is not much interest among consumers in solar energy production. Even among agricultural consumers, 50 percent are dependent on electricity from Discoms. Same is the condition of Jaipur and Jodhpur discoms of the state.
