Bharatpur : Amitabh Bachchan’s film Don released on 12 May 1978 has dialogues like ‘Police of 11 countries are waiting for Don’, ‘Don is injured, so what…? Still he is Don’, and catching Don is not only difficult but impossible… The story of Raju Bhai, a thug from Mewat, who is infamous for cheating in the country, is no less than this dialogue. This name has remained a mystery for the police of 10 states of the country for the last 20 years. This name is common in the FIRs of police stations for selling brass bricks by claiming them to be gold, but the police of any state has not been able to arrest this thug. The chain of cheating with this name has not stopped, rather cases of cheating with victims are still coming to light from all over the country. The reality is that the thugs of Mewat use the name Raju to cheat. This name is mostly used in cheating by claiming brass bricks to be gold (tattlubaaji). The police also believes that the name Raju is very common and popular in common parlance. This makes it easy for thugs to hunt, but people need to be cautious. This is the reason that the thugs of Mewat have cheated lakhs of people from Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttarakhand, West Bengal till now. The police of these states keep coming here for raids.
This is how they cheat
Every day, police from some state or the other come to Mewat area in search of the accused. Fraudsters from Mewat area call people to Kaman by telling them that they are selling cars through OLX or that they have found gold bricks under the ground while digging with a JCB and are selling them at a low price. After this, they commit fraud or robbery. Kaman, Pahadi and Jurhara areas of Bharatpur district are known as Mewat area. Here, for a long time, frauds have been taking place by telling brass bricks to be gold.
Case number one: On April 18, 2022, a young man named Raju called Vinita, a resident of Rajkot, Gujarat, and told her that his uncle does excavation work with a JCB machine and while excavating an old fort, he has found a gold brick which he wants to sell. Vinita got trapped in the trap of the fraudsters and reached Kaman in Bharatpur from Rajkot. The woman remained in touch with the fraudsters on the phone and the fraudsters called her to Kaman bypass. Where they took two lakh rupees and gave her fake bricks.
Case number two: On May 1, 2022, Nirpat Bhai, a resident of Gujarat, reported to the police that the accused, posing as Raju, promised to give him a gold brick. He was duped of Rs 5 lakh by telling him that the brass brick was gold.
Case number three: In December 2023, a person named Raju called two elderly people of Uttar Pradesh and cheated them of Rs 6 lakh by telling them that a brass brick was gold. – Often in cases of fraud, the thugs use the name Raju, but people themselves need to be cautious. However, now the trend of such fraud has completely ended in Mewat. Operation Anti Virus has also had a great impact on the thugs.
