This dam overflowed after 17 years in Rajasthan, villagers started dancing with joy

Jodhpur : after seventeen years, on Friday evening at 5 pm, as soon as the water gauge of Jaswant Sagar Dam touched 26.50 feet, the elated villagers started dancing with the chants of Ganga Maayya. The villagers offered shawls to the sea and praised the water. With the drums being played, the dancers also started dancing and the people present near the dam started congratulating each other. There was a festive atmosphere around the dam throughout the day. At 11 pm, water overflowed from the dam and water started flowing from three pillars. Earlier in the year 2007, Jaswant Sagar Dam had overflowed. Then a part of the dam had broken. After getting it repaired, this time the water gauge of the dam has reached 26.50 feet for the first time on Friday evening. Now the water can flow from the dam at any moment.

The irrigation department started installing sheesham embankments on the culvert. Farmers protested against this under the leadership of Bhavi village’s sarpanch Suraram Sirvi. The farmers reached the subdivision office. When the subdivision officer got information about the installation of the embankment, he immediately informed the district collector. The collector reprimanded the superintending engineer and instructed not to install embankments on the dam’s culvert and got the embankments removed. The Jaswantsagar dam has been filled to its full capacity. After the water gauge reached 26.50 feet, water started flowing out from one part. The villagers, elated by this, celebrated by singing and dancing.
