Jodhpur : As the monsoon approaches, the climate of the state has started improving. The sky is almost clear due to increased humidity in the atmosphere and strong south-western wind. Air pollutants have started disappearing. In the coming days, the sky will remain clean due to repeated washing in the monsoon rain. In such a situation, the climate in the state will remain pure till September i.e. till the monsoon goes away, this will especially benefit respiratory patients. Moisture from the Arabian Sea has been entering for the last one week. Due to this, the Air Quality Index (AQI) has come down below 100 micrograms per cubic meter. AQI 0 to 50 is considered better and 51 to 100 is considered satisfactory. That is, the people of the state are getting good air for a week.
Pollutants do not accumulate due to strong wind and rain
Due to strong wind, rain and humidity, the pollutants present in the air do not collect together, due to which the air does not get polluted. In the rain, the pollutants come to the ground with water and get washed away.
What is AQI
The Central Pollution Control Board measures six pollutants for air quality. These include fine particles of air i.e. particulate matter PM 10, PM 2.5, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, sulphur dioxide and ozone. Most places including Jodhpur have pollution of PM 10 and PM 2.5 particles only. PM particles include dust particles, carbon particles, water vapour, fine particles of waste emitted from vehicles and some gases. Their particles are small ranging from 2.5 microns to 10 microns, which enter the lungs through breathing and cause diseases like asthma, COPD.
