Jaipur : what if we are declared dead in government records? Something similar happened with a person from Rajasthan. 37-year-old Shankar Singh Rawat and his two children have been declared dead in government records. Because of this, they are not able to get all the benefits from the government. Not only this, none of their legal work is being done. Shankar is a resident of Saran village of Marwar Junction tehsil of Pali district. In 2022, when he went to the government camp to apply for Kisan Samman Nidhi, a welfare scheme for farmers, he learned about his ‘death’.
The surprising thing was that not only he, but also his daughter and son were declared dead in the records. Since that day, Shankar has been visiting one government office after another to prove that he and his children are alive. Despite visiting the offices of the Collector and SDM, they only got assurances, but no solution. Shankar and his three children have been recorded as dead in their Jan Aadhar card. Therefore, they are not getting any benefit from the government.
Shankar Singh Rawat got married in 2010. they have three children. His mother, wife and children lived in the village itself. A few years ago, he shifted to Abu Road to work in a marble factory. During that time his wife married someone else and took the younger son with her. Shankar alleges that after a property dispute, his wife along with the e-Mitra operator got him declared dead in his Jan Aadhar card. He has also contacted the District Collector demanding action against the then Sarpanch. However, nothing has been resolved yet. He is still dead on record.
