Jalore : 35 TMC i.e. water equal to the filling of 5 Jawai Dam is overflowing into the Gulf of Khambhat in Kadana Dam in Gujarat. This has been revealed in the feasibility report of WAPCOS. This is an important victory in providing water from Kadana Dam to Jalore, Barmer and Sirohi districts under the Western Rajasthan Canal Project. After this report, the way has now been opened for making DPR for the project. Under the project, Western Rajasthan is to be benefited by building a high level canal near the water flowing in Sujalam Sufalam canals in Gujarat, just 20 km from the state border. The feasibility report in the case of Western Rajasthan Canal (WRC) has been submitted to the Government of Rajasthan on October 5 by Wapcos Survey Company. Let us tell you that on June 18, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has written a letter to Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil for the implementation of this important project.
This is how the matter progressed
In the month of June, the survey company had presented a pre-feasibility report, after which in the meeting held in Jaipur, the officials had asked for a report on river-wise assessment of the water reaching Kadana. Under which feasibility report was prepared along with assessment of water available in different rivers including Palmeri, Jakham, Som.
DPR will be made for around Rs 10 crores
This important project will change the fate of entire Western Rajasthan. The process for DPR for the project will be started soon. The detailed project report of the project can be prepared at a cost of about Rs 10 crore. Let us tell you that more than 20 lakh bighas of area under Western Rajasthan will be transformed from dry area to irrigated in future through this project. There will also be water available for drinking purposes.
Our fight is two-tiered, victory in one
According to the 1966 agreement with the Mahi Basin Project, Jalore and Barmer, Sirohi are entitled. We have won the issue of water overflowing from Kadana Dam every year. Western Rajasthan is going to get this water in future. At the second level, according to the agreement signed in 1966, the dam has rights on 2/3 of the water. For this, the state government has written to the Central Government to constitute a tribunal. Let us tell you that formation of Water Tribunal is necessary for inter-state water disputes.
RTI filed 121 times
President of the organization Badridan Narpura said that efforts were made to implement this project with everyone’s cooperation. It was a matter between two states, hence action was not possible without solid documents. In such a situation, various evidence and documents were collected by filing RTI 121 times in the state and Gujarat. In this way, this project has come to life with the help of RTI of total 1795 pages.
Farmers are fighting for the rights of three districts
The officials of Rajasthan Kisan Sangharsh Samiti decided to fight for their rights. Under which the organization started action under the leadership of its coordinator Vikram Singh Poonasa and president Badridan Narpura. A PIL was filed in the High Court in 2021 to provide water to Western Rajasthan as per the 1966 agreement and in this case, on 18 November 2022, the court issued instructions to prepare a plan to benefit these areas from the Mahi Basin. . After which the matter came into action and the action is going on accordingly. This is an important and significant project for Western Rajasthan. I have met the Chief Minister in this matter. Also wrote to the Union Jal Shakti Minister. A joint meeting of Gujarat and Rajasthan is to be held in the matter. Efforts will be made to implement the project as soon as possible.
