Mumal was a resident of Laudrava, Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, while Mahendra was a resident of Amarkot, Pakistan. Laudrava is situated near the Kak river flowing near Jaisalmer and here was also the palace of Princess Mumal, which is known as Ikathambhiya Palace. Mumal lived on the steps of the palace. In Rajasthan, the rooms built on the roof are called Medi. It is said that there were many secret ways to go up to this palace and this palace was a mysterious place in which scary animals like python, lion, snake lived, everyone got scared after seeing them and people were afraid of going to this palace.
Mumal had announced in the meeting that I will marry the king who reaches me after fighting all these scary animals, whereas Princess Mumal was so beautiful that the churches of her beauty were spread to Gujarat, Marwar, Iran, Iraq and Sindh. It is said that many kings came here to meet Mumal, but no one could reach the princess, and even if he had reached, he would not have been able to answer the princess’s questions.
On the other hand, King Mahendra was very fond of hunting, he used to hunt near Amarkot with his brother-in-law Hamir. Due to this, one day King Mahendra, while hunting, reached Laudrava situated near the Kak river. Where Mahendra saw a beautiful garden in which he saw a palace amidst many types of flowers, fruit trees etc. Mahendra found the palace very beautiful and strange to look at. There were pictures of many dangerous animals on the top of this palace. King Mahendra came inside the garden to see the palace where he saw a maid. Mahendra told the maid that we have reached here while hunting and are tired so we want to rest, on this the maid asked Mahendra to stay in the palace. After which when Mahendra asked about the owner of the palace, the maid told him about Princess Mumal and said that she is very beautiful and her beauty is famous all over the world. After this the maid asked Mahendra whether he had heard his name? To this the king replied that no, I have not heard.
On this the maid said that this palace and garden belong to Princess Mumal and she lives here with her friends. The maid also told the king that whoever reaches the princess and answers her questions, the princess will marry him. After hearing all this, King Mahendra became curious to know more about Princess Mumal. Then what happened from here begins the love story of Mumal and Mahendra. After this the maid tells Princess Mumal about King Mahendra and the princess tells her that he is our guest and arrangements should be made for his stay. King Mahendra stops there and when a servant comes to him with food, the king wants to know about Princess Mumal. Then the servant says that if I start telling you about Princess Mumal, it will turn from morning to evening. Princess Mumal is so beautiful that her beauty cannot be described in words. She is so beautiful that when she walks in front of a mirror, the glass breaks. She takes bath with milk and applies sandalwood paste on her body. She is the most beautiful and different in the world. After this the servant says that famous kings, maharajas and many princes came from far and wide to see her, but the princess did not even glance at them.
The servant said that the princess will marry the prince who will win her heart, otherwise she will not marry for the rest of her life. After hearing all this, King Mahendra became eager to meet the princess and he sent a message to meet the princess. When the princess called Mahendra upstairs, King Mahendra was stunned to see Mumal. On the other hand, the princess also kept looking at the radiance of Mahendra’s face and eyes. Mumal welcomed King Mahendra, after this both of them sat together and kept talking throughout the night. Due to this, both of them fell in love with each other at first sight. Both of them kept talking the whole night and I don’t know when it was morning, but neither the king wanted to go from there nor Mumal wanted Mahendra to go from there. Ultimately the king had to leave from there unwillingly, but Mahendra promised Mumal that he would come back to meet him soon. After seeing the princess, King Mahendra forgot everything and only mumal settled in his mind and heart. Due to this, the king decided in his mind that he would marry Mumal and bring her with him to Amarkot. Let us tell you that King Mahendra was already married and he already had 7 wives.
After this, when the king reached Amarkot, he made a plan to meet Princess Mumal. A person named Ramu Raika lived in Mahendra’s house who used to graze camels. The king went to him and said that I want a camel which can take me to Lodrava at night and bring me back to Amarkot in the morning. Hearing this, Ramu Raika said that there is a camel named Chital, who runs very fast, he will take you to Laudrava at night and bring you back to Amarkot in the morning.
In the evening, Ramu Raika decorated the camel and took it to Mahendra and the king rode on it and went to meet Princess Mumal and returned to Amarkot in the morning. Gradually, the love story of Mahendra and Mumal started blossoming and this process of meeting continued for a long time. Then after a few days, when the king’s seven wives came to know about this, they hatched a conspiracy to stop King Mahendra and broke the legs of the camel Chital, so that the king could not go to meet Mumal, but it is said that true love and No power in the world can stop Chahat, Mahendra reached Laudrava with another camel to meet Princess Mumal, but he was very late in reaching and Princess Mumal fell asleep while waiting for him.
Now there was a new twist in the love story of Mahendra Moomal, his sister Sumal also lived with Moomal, that day she slept with Moomal while playing and Moomal’s sister was also wearing men’s clothes that day. At the same time, when the king reached there and saw this scene, Mahendra wondered who was this man with Mumal? Seeing this the king returned and Mahendra’s whip broke and fell there. The king thought that Mumal loved someone else also. Mumal woke up in the morning and when she saw the broken whip she understood that the king had come here and from this she also came to know the reason behind King Mahendra returning without meeting her.
Due to this, the princess kept waiting for the king for many days but Mahendra did not come. The princess stopped eating, stopped applying makeup but the king did not return. On the other hand, Mahendra could not believe that how could Mumal do this? The princess wrote many letters to the king, but before the letters reached Mahendra, his seven wives used to tear them, about which the king had no idea. Then Princess Mumal sent her servant to meet Mahendra, but he was not allowed to meet the king in Amarkot. But the servant did not give up and he sat there hiding and reached Mahendra secretly in the night. At that time the king was sleeping and the servant started humming a song, hearing which the king came out. After which the servant told everything to Mahendra and the servant returned to Princess Mumal with the king’s message. Hearing this, the ground slipped beneath Mumal’s feet and he understood what was the reason for the misunderstanding.
After this the princess again sent a message to the king that she was coming to Amarkot to meet the king. When Mahendra came to know about all this, he thought that Princess Mumal was innocent and that is why she wanted to meet me. The king again sent a message that there was no need for Mumal to come here, he himself was coming to meet her. Princess Mumal was very happy to hear this and started waiting for King Mahendra. King Mahendra thought why not test Mumal’s love? Then the king reached Laudrava and sent a message to Mumal that Mahendra had been bitten by a snake and died. This message reached the princess and after hearing all this, Mumal fell down. And after calling the name of Mahendra-Mahendra several times, he gave up his life. On the other hand, when the news reached the king that Princess Mumal had given up her life due to separation from Mahendra, the king also kept crying in the sand dunes and he also gave up his life. In this way, this unique love story had a very sad end, but no one had thought that without the meeting of Mumal and Mahendra, their immortal love story would end like this.
