Special campaign launched in 2020 to find it

A special campaign was launched in the year 2020 to find the rare wildlife Siagosh in Ranthambore. In the year 2020, Siyagosh i.e. Caracal was discovered by the forest officials of Ranthambore by running a special campaign for several months. For this, photo trap cameras were installed by the Forest Department at about 215 places in the forests of Ranthambore. At that time the forest department had confirmed the presence of about 35 caracals in Ranthambore.

After the presence of Caracal in Ranthambore was confirmed, a project was also made by the Forest Department for the conservation of Caracal. Due to lack of permission from higher authorities, its work could not be started in Ranthambore and the issue of caracal conservation was put on hold.

According to Dharmendra Khandal of Tiger Watch organization of Ranthambore, its name Caracal is derived from the Turkish word Karakulak, which means a creature with black ears. In India the caracal is known by its Persian name Siyagosh, which is also a direct reference to its long black ears. According to wildlife expert Dr. Dharmendra Khandal, caracal is found in 60 countries of the world.

Found in abundance in Israel and Africa. Caracals are found in only a few states of India, in the last 20 years Caracals have been seen in India only in 3 states Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. Its length is 31 inches and weight is 8 to 9 kg. Caracal is a very shy and active species of wildlife.
