Jaipur News Desk: In the government calendar, Diwali holiday is on 31st October, while scholars associated with Panchang and Astrology are declaring Diwali as auspicious on 1st November. Due to this, everyone from the common man to the market is in a state of confusion. At the same time, a conference of scholars has been called in Jaipur on 15th and 16th October to discuss which day is auspicious for Diwali. On the other hand, confusion has arisen due to the different date of Diwali in the government calendar and almanac in the year 2025.
Astrologers allege that last year the General Administration Department was informed that Diwali would be on November 1, 2024, yet October 31 was declared a holiday. Astrologers say that Kartik Amavasya will start from 3:52 pm on 31st October and will continue till 6:17 pm after sunset on the next day on 1st November 2024. Sunset on November 1 will be at 5:45 pm. According to astrological scholars, where there are two days of festival, there is mention in the scriptures of celebrating the festival on the second day. Based on this, since Amavasya is acceptable on 1st November, worshiping Mahalakshmi and donating lamps on the same day during Pradosh period is auspicious.
This is what the scriptures say
Dharmasindhu: If Amavasya touches Pradoshkaal on both the days, then Mahalakshmi worship should be done on the second day only.
Decision Sindhu: When the tithi is present in the Karma period for two days, then the combination of Amavasya and Pratipada is auspicious and the Mahodasha of Amavasya with Chaturdashi is considered, it destroys the good deeds done earlier.
The government had sought his advice for the calendar.
