Three Uzbek citizens arrested in Türkiye, accused of murder of Israeli religious leader

Istanbul, November 27 (IANS). Turkish intelligence agency and police have arrested three Uzbek citizens in Istanbul. Sources said that he is accused of murder of an Israeli-Moldovan citizen living in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

According to news agency Xinhua, Turkish sources said that this arrest was made at the request of the United Arab Emirates. The three Uzbek nationals fled the UAE after being confirmed guilty of the murder.

Turkish intelligence and police immediately launched a covert operation against the suspects. The intelligence agency monitored his flights and his movements after reaching Istanbul.

The suspects’ taxi was stopped for a traffic check and they were arrested. After this the arrested citizens were extradited to the United Arab Emirates.

Former Israeli soldier Zvi Kogan was the rabbi and special envoy of the Jewish religious movement Chabad to the United Arab Emirates.

UAE intelligence and security officials recovered Kogan’s body on 24 November, three days after Rabai went missing. The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office then said that Kogan’s murder was part of ‘a heinous anti-Semitic terrorist incident’.
