Johannesburg, 16 November (IANS). Team India’s young batsman Tilak Verma scored two consecutive centuries in the T20 match against South Africa. Batting at number 3, he tore apart the bowlers of the host team. Praising Tilak’s batting, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav said that he is now fully prepared for ‘number-3’.
Tilak Verma played an incredible inning of 120 not out and became the fifth player to score two consecutive T20 centuries. He was fully supported by Sanju Samson, who scored an unbeaten 109 runs. Thanks to these innings, India made a huge score of 283/1. In reply, the host team was all out for 148 runs and India won the T20 series 3-1.
Suryakumar said after the match, “This (sending Tilak at number three) was on my mind for a long time. For India, a player has batted with consistency at number three for a long time and performed well. It was the right time for a young player like Tilak and we both discussed it among ourselves, I hope that he not only bats in T20. I would rather do well in every format.”
Samson and Tilak’s brilliant innings have capped a stellar year for India in T20 Internationals, where they won 24 out of 26 matches and also lifted the T20 World Cup trophy in June. But even after winning the trophy, India has shown that it has the potential to become an aggressive and legendary team in the T20 format in the future also.
Tilak said, “I never thought that I would score two consecutive centuries for my country, that too in the challenging conditions of South Africa. I am very happy and at this moment I cannot express this feeling in words.”
